Calvados Storage

THE CELLARS OF CALVADOS PERE MAGLOIRE
                   Ageing well is real art

The cellars of Calvados Père Magloire

In the dark, peaceful cellars, Père Magloire Calvados ages slowly to perfection.
The 5 cellars, sheltering more than 2500 oak barrels and 350 casks, are located at Pont l’Evêque and Sainte Foy de Montgomery.

Ageing in oak casks is an essential stage in the creation of our vintage Calvados; it is the gradual, continual reaction between the wood and the air in the cellars which ensures that our Calvados becomes enriched with oak tannins.

Its bouquet intensifies and its colour changes from golden to deeper and deeper shades of amber. The Cellar Master then gathers Calvados of different ages and origins and composes his blends in the same way a florist creates a bouquet of flowers. He samples them regularly to check their fruition so that the end product is of the finest quality and suitably in harmony with its origins.

COOPERAGE

In July 1997, the guided tour of Père Magloire added a new point of interest.

A model workshop showing how barrels are made is now located in the heart of the cellars.

This workshop is the only one of its kind in the Pays d’Auge Region; it highlights the different stages in the construction of the barrels, an important element in the ageing process of Père Magloire Calvados.
